Fun fall picnic ideas
Fall is the best time of the year for outdoor activities. The weather is a bit cooler , there are less bugs and the scenery is ever changing with beautiful fall color. Today I am sharing some fun ideas for a fun fall picnic.
When the season goes from Summer to Fall I think it is the perfect time of year to spend more time outside and enjoy a fun fall picnic.
Fall weather makes me think of warmer foods and fun little fall treats for picnics and dining al fresco.

Picnic basics
To begin you need a basket of some kind to carry your food and supplies in.
You can carry a traditional picnic basket if you have one, if not you can use a market basket like the one I have here.
This particular basket is from The Grace Case. Grace Case is curated by Ann Voskamp, 100% of the proceeds go to help fund Mercy House Global’s work in Kenya.
A fun blanket or quilt to sit on.You can use an over sized fall scarf, quilt or an actual picnic blanket.
The one I have used is from Hearth and Hand at Target that I bought about two years ago but I found one like it on Amazon.
Another great item to have in your picnic basics is a tiffin.
Tiffin boxes are durable and made to be used for many years. They originated in India where they are still used today.
They are intended for keeping snacks and food for school or work and work perfectly for a picnic.
My particular tiffin came in The Grace Case box and I have been loving it.
A great item to have to keep hot drinks or soup in is a Stanley stanless steel thermos.
Ours is very old and very beat up but it still works like a charm.
I have added several items like those I have here to my amazon storefront for your shopping convenience, everything is listed under Picnic Basics
Fall food ideas
Before you begin planning for your fall picnic you need to decide if your going the simple route or if you are going to do a full on meal.
For our picnics we generally go super simple and mostly healthy foods.
Here are a few fun items that Trader Joe’s carries seasonally that are perfect for a fall picnic.
- Spiced Cider (this is really good warmed up and kept in your thermos)
- Organic roasted red pepper tomato soup
- Fun fall leaf corn tortilla chips
- Fall Harvest Salsa
- Pumpkin bread/muffins
I absolutely love their seasonal items, if you have a Trader Joe’s near you their seasonal items are perfect for any al fresco fall picnic.
These are just a few basics you need to craft the perfect fall picnic while enjoying the crisp fall air.
