Reasons why neutral decor makes sense
If your like me and love to change your home decor often then this is perfect for you. I am sharing reasons why it makes sense to use neutrals in your home. Regardless of trends, giving you the ability to change your decor often or adding bold color.
If you have been around here for any amount of time then you know that I love to switch around my decor often.
Using a neutral back drop gives your home the perfect base for all colors and seasons.
I probably have home decor ADHD, if there is such a thing.
Years ago when my husband and I got our first home I knew right off that I wanted to use neutral colors because I like switching things often.
When using neutral tones in your home you are not restricted to one decor style or color scheme.
The neutral color scheme makes it the perfect choice when you like to change your home with the seasons or just when you need a refresh.
You might be wondering what colors are considered neutral?
Neutral color schemes include:
- beige
- ivory
- taupe
- black
- gray
- shades of white
- navy
These colors may seem trendy now, but they are colors that can with stand the test of time.
Using neutral decor as your back drop and on larger scale items in your home gives you the opportunity to add color with smaller scaled items.
Smaller scale items
- pillows
- curtains
- art
- rugs
- fabrics
- blankets
- table top decor
Decorating your home does not have to be complicated.
With the change of every season I have the ability to quickly add a few small, budget friendly decor items to refresh my home for that season.
Below are a few examples of small changes made during different times of the year.
The mantels above are the perfect example of how using a neutral backdrop I am able to add any color I choose.
Every room in our home has a neutral tones making it easy to transition pieces from one room to the next.
Some may think that having a neutral palette is flat or boring.
Neutral is the perfect backdrop to showcase other elements in your decor and really show off your personality and home style.
Having a neutral backdrop is a classic design element that you will not tire of.
Using a neutral palette is quite the opposite of boring but there are a few things you need to do to keep it from being flat.
In order for your neutral home to feel warm and welcoming, be sure to add plenty of textures, layer textiles and add wood elements.
These things will help your home feel cozy and calm.

These reason show why I think choosing a neutral decor palette not only makes sense but keeps decor simple.

I love how cozy and soothing neutrals feel. For me, it’s all about how they make me feel, which is calm and relaxed. I don’t mind adding a pop of color here and there, but I want the majority of my spaces to be neutral. Great post Sonya! Pinned!
