I wanted to start by telling you that this little craft project started off so different.
At first I was reusing some outgrown and unwanted sweaters that I had been saving for quite a while.
I cut the sleeves off those sweaters and tied them on the wreath form which was an absolute fail.
That is when I came up with this simple idea using items I already had.
But first I needed to take the old wreath apart.
Deconstructing an old wreath
When my previous idea flopped I realized that I could use something else I had in my craft closet.
I used a wreath that I made back in the Spring and simply took everything off of it and reused the greenery and the hoop from that original wreath.
Here is a link to how I made this Spring wreath.
Supplies needed for a simple wreath
- chunky knit yarn
- macrame gold or silver hoop
- faux greenery of your choice
- small glue gun
- floral wire
That is all that is needed for this super simple winter wreath.
If you don’t have any of these supplies I have listed them in my Amazon storefront for your convenience. All of the supplies are listed here.
One you have your supplies ready it is time to start creating your cozy yarn wreath.
Steps to creating your cozy yarn wreath
When you first start to wrap the yarn around your hoop your will need to put a small dab of hot glue on it to keep it in place.
Once that has dried you are ready to begin wrapping the yard being sure to overlap each piece as you go.
Once you have gone around the entire hoop you can continue going around the entire thing one more time.
Be sure as you are wrapping to pull it taught so it does not unravel.
Once you have finished the second wrap add another dollop of hot glue to keep the yarn attached.
Now time to add the faux greenery.
Adding greens to your simple wreath
For this I simply used the greenery from the spring wreath I had previously made with this hoop.
I did not want the greens to be permanently attached so I used floral wire to attach them.
Place the faux greens where every you would like them and wrap the floral wire around to keep them in place.
Wrap until you feel the greenery is secure.
The faux greenery may be a little heavy depending on what you choose to use for your simple winter wreath.
Mine was a little heavy and kept sliding.
In order to stop that I cut some of the yarn and wrapped it over the center of the faux greens and floral wire and added a little bit of hot glue to hold in place.
That is all that was needed to create this simple cozy yarn winter wreath.
You can make this to match your decor and style, be creative and please share a photo of what you create.
Happy winter.
Till next time
Xoxo
