Three elements of a cozy fall home.
It is the time of year when everyone is thinking of cooler temperatures and all things pumpkin. This fall home tour is full of fall inspiration to get you going on your fall decor this season.
Welcome to the Celebrating Home Fall Tour. Thank you Eileen of Sand Dollar Lane for putting this together.
If you are coming here from Kelly at The Tattered Pew, I am so glad you stopped by.
Fall is often a time of rest and respite, a transitional time that brings new beginnings and I connect that with all things cozy.
With new beginnings it is time to make a few changes to our homes to bring in that cozy fall feeling.
In order to create a cozy fall home, I feel there are three elements that help create that in a space.
First lets look at the colors of fall.
Using color to create a cozy space
Our home is speckled with more traditional fall colors that stem from nature. But you can do this with modern fall colors if that is what you desire.
Traditional fall colors include:
- red
- yellow
- purple
- black
- blue
- orange
- magenta
- brown
I did not use all these colors, I just used what I already had and used them in different ways.
Last year I did a different take on minimal budget friendly fall decor, you can see that here.
Adding touches of warm golden yellow and butterscotch in pillows, orange pumpkins and those colors in art brings a cohesive fall color scheme.
There are touches of cream, green, brown and neutral wood tones that tie it all together.
Options are endless when adding fall colors and it does not have to be all pumpkins, unless you want it to be.
You can add:
- art
- bottles
- books
- colorful throws
- fall colored real or faux plants
Using fall colors in your home is just one element of a cozy fall home.
Texture plays a huge role in creating the cozy fall feel.
Adding texture for a cozy feel
Working with texture is so fun and you can really get creative when adding it to your home.
Texture of course being the feel and appearance of a particular item.
This can be added with soft fuzzy blankets, plaid wool blankets in fall colors or white, wood decor, shiny objects, fabric, felt and so much more.
You could add things from the outdoors such as sticks and grasses like I did in the vase on the mantel.
Really the possibilities are endless for adding texture.
It is really more of what speaks to you in creating that cozy feel.
Pumpkins can add texture and color in your fall home and is a great way to bring in a touch of nature.
I added a lumpy, bumpy pumpkin to the center of our kitchen table with some wicker chargers for added textural appeal.
I love how all the textures help to warm up the space.
Now we have talked about adding color and texture to your home to create that cozy fall home, the next element is scent.
Adding scent to your home
Scent is not only pleasant, but can have an emotional connection.
Those that have full olfactory function may be able to evoke memories through smell, that is why we are so connected to smells.
Connection makes it fun to use scent in your home as part of creating a cozy fall space.
Using certain scents in your home may remind you of your grandmothers made from scratch baked apple dumplins, or the time your family went to the pumpkin patch or orchard.
Whatever memories are related to a certain scent creates a mood in your home.
During this time of rest and respite I like to diffuse my favorite scent while enjoying my cozy fall home.
