ORC design plans for our kitchen refresh
Welcome back to week two of the ORC challenge. I am excited to share our design plans for our kitchen refresh. You may notice quite a few changes from last week.
Looking at our design board you can see that our plans have changed a bit.
If you don’t know what I am talking about you can go here.
I wanted to explain the why behind our changes.
Original plan
Originally we had chosen to take down our current tile and put up white subway tile.
In the process I bought some beautiful Italian brick tile in a gray color that I really loved from Facebook marketplace.
When I got the tile home the color was all wrong for our current counter tops.
Originally I had planned to paint the counter tops but with more research I realized that I did not care for the end results of that so I decided to work with the counter tops as they are.
After all that I came to the realization that white subway tile though beautiful ,was not right for my kitchen.
I love the look of subway tile in everyone else’s home, but not for my kitchen and so a new plan was created.
Our game plan
With that in mind I came up with the new plan for our ORC Challenge budget friendly kitchen refresh.
This plan means keeping out current cabinets and countertops and making some cosmetic changes that will really update the space.
Cosmetic changes
- adding shiplap to backsplash
- changing out the pendent lighting
- updating the cabinet knobs
- adding a vintage rug
- adding another shiplap treatment in a darker hue to the bar area
- switching out the kitchen faucette
All of the changes will tie together and bring a cohesive updated, modern french farmhouse feel to the space.
This design style fits our lives,, our home and the desired feel we want to have.
I am excited that we realized what we really wanted before we got started.
These changes will allow us to eventually change the countertops when the budget allows.
Another factor I love in the new plan is the shiplap can be changed any time with a quick coat of paint.
Having tile on our backsplash for the last 17 years or so, it is time for a much needed refresh.
Check back next week as I update you on where we are with things.
In the meantime, be sure to click here and support all the amazing designers and guest participants, you will find some much inspiration.
Till next time.
