One Room Challenge: Budget friendly kitchen makeover
I am so excited to participate in the Spring One Room Challenge with my budget friendly kitchen makeover.
This will be my first time participating in the One Room Challenge and I am both excited and nervous.
Every week designers and quest participants will post the progress on their chosen space, with 8 weeks to complete the challenge.
Challenge
The One Room Challenge host very talented designers and guest participants as they share their spaces and their designs.
Posting the progress of the spaces they chose for the challenge.
The premise of the challenge is one room in a eight week period from start to finish.
This is not competition, but a chance to celebrate individual creativity and inspiration, started by Linda Weinstein.
I have always watched this challenge and the participants from afar, but decided it was time to join in.
Registering for my very first Spring One Room Challenge.
Makeover space
For this One Room Challenge I have chosen to refresh our kitchen space.
We built our home 17 years ago, and we choose a neutral pallet with an emphasis on brown tones at that time.
What can I say it was the 90’s.
If you look at the tile closely it appears to have developed a pink hue.
Seventeen years later this space is in need of some refreshing and a makeover.
Economical transformation plan
Even though we are doing this makeover on a budget because I am out of work due to the pandemic, I want it to have an impact on the space.
Our plan for the One Room Challenge: budget friendly kitchen makeover is to lighten it up a bit and bring it up to date, yet not too trendy.
We plan to:
- replace the tile
- paint the countertops (replacing them at a later time)depending on availability
- changing out the knobs and drawer pulls
- lightening up small appliances
- add some interest to the bar area with wood treatment or paint
These may not seem like major changes, but are changes I feel will bring some light into this rather drab space.
I have been searching for inspiration of a french farmhouse, cottage look, while staying within a budget.
Our original plan was to use some left over beautiful marble chevron tile that we had but we just did not have enough to cover the space.
So now it onto plan B, which is white subway tile.
With that in mind it is time to get this One Room Challenge started.
Starting this One Room Challenge
I am so excited to get started with the One Room Challenge: budget friendly kitchen makeover and getting the old tile out and the walls prepped for the new tile.
Keeping you up to date with weekly progress of our space while sharing some beautiful spaces from the other participates.
This is a great time to support and show love to all the designers and guest that are participating.
If you are looking for some inspiration for any room in your home you will find plenty with the designers and other guest participants posting weekly here.
Come back next week to see how things are going with our kitchen space.
Till next time
Xoxo
