Simple Christmas wreath
Today I am sharing how I created a simple Christmas wreath with vintage ornaments.
These vintage ornaments are some that my family used when I was a kid.
My mother gave them to me several years ago and I had been afraid of using them until this year.
They are a little fragile but I wanted to use them anyway.
This wreath is so simple and can be done with new or vintage ornaments.
If you are looking to use vintage ornaments but do not have any, here are a few places to check out.
Another great place to look is thrift stores, they typically always have vintage ornaments.
Before I started with the ornaments, I made a simple bow and wanted to share how I did that.
How to make a simple ribbon bow
You too can make a simple ribbon bow for your Christmas wreath with just a few supplies.
Supplies needed:
-various size ribbon in coordinating colors, scraps work well
-scissors
That is it, now your ready to get started on your bow.
Steps to creating the wreath bow
- Cut your ribbon the same length or close to it and lay aside.
- Once ribbon is cut to size decide on placement of each strand of ribbon.
- Lay each strand out crisscross and on the diagonal.
- Take a coordinating ribbon and tie them all together, leaving enough ribbon to tie the bow onto the wreath.
This is the easiest way to make a bow that you can take apart and reuse the ribbon for another project afterward.
Once you have the bow made it is time to begin creating your vintage ornament Christmas wreath.
Creating a simple wreath
For this particular wreath I used a flocked wreath I had from a few years ago, but you could use any type of wreath you have.
My wreath came from Walmart, I have included a link for you below.
For my style I like to keep things pretty simp, with the flocking I felt it did not need much.
Besides that I only had a few vintage ornaments.
I also used a few handmade doily’s that my aunt made when I was a kid.
These are just folded up and stuck into the wreath so they stayed.
The first thing I did was figure out the placement of the ribbon bow I made and began placing each ornament.
I simply tied each ornament on with bakers twine so that I could easily take them off after Christmas.
After the holidays everything on this wreath can easily be removed and stored for the next year.
