Solutions for full sun outdoor spaces
Hello friends! Now that the warmer/hotter weather has come to the North Carolina coast, I wanted to share an amazing solution for full sun outdoor spaces.
Our home has two outdoor spaces, one being a screened in porch and the other is a back patio. The patio area is right off of our dining room, facing north, getting approximately 6 plus hours of sun a day. The sun has been brutal on our outdoor furniture that we had custom built by Dick Hurd from Michigan. You can see some of the damage to the furniture in the picture. What you can not see is the damage the sun has caused on our hardwood floors right inside the sliding doors that are right off this patio. During the summer months it is so hot on the back patio that it is not enjoyable to be out there. The past few years it has been a place to keep our furniture and our plants but was not enjoyed by our family.
We have tried tables with small umbrellas, sun shades that did not hang properly or withstand the coastal winds that we have often here. So we gave up on using the space while my husband began a mission of finding a solution for us to be able to sit out there and enjoy the space.
He found this amazing umbrella at Lowe’s Home Improvement that he and the kids gave me for mother’s day. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Simply-Shade-Cantilever-Umbrella-Tan-Offset-Pre-lit-11-ft-Patio-Umbrella-with-Base/1000365497
This umbrella comes in several different colors as well as varying sizes. It was easy to assemble, though it did take both my husband and myself to fill it up with sand and water. I think this umbrella is the perfect solution to meet our needs, and could possibly be right for your outdoor spaces that get full sun a majority of the day. It was not an inexpensive solution but the best we have found.
Till next time
xoxo
