How to make simple french inspired easter eggs
Since all my children are older this year I wanted to create some Easter eggs that were more in line with my home decor, no more colorful plastic eggs here. I am sharing how to make simple french inspired Easter eggs.
The days of colorful plastic eggs filled with candy are over at my house, but decorating for the holiday is not.
I decided that I wanted to continue with decorating for Easter but in a way that aligned with my interior style.
If you are here from Hearth and Vine welcome ,didn’t you love her galvanized hanging planter?
Thank you to Leen at Sand Dollar Lane for all her work in putting together this amazing blog hop with 25 bloggers sharing all sorts of Spring inspiration this entire week.
Creating something seasonal and beautiful is easy with just a few supplies, some of which I already had on hand.
When I decided what I was going to do I remembered I had taken all of my plastic eggs to my classroom and had none at home.
Not to worry, I was able to find the eggs I needed for my french inspired easter eggs.
Supplies for french inspired eggs
- country toile paper napkins
- ModPodge
- small paint brush
- 12 white plastic craft eggs from Michaels
- sheet music
I used sheets out of an old hymnal that I found on the free table at my local thrift store.
The sheets had originally been cut into hearts to create a valentine banner and I just recycled those by cutting each heart down.
The napkins were left over from some ornaments I made over the holidays.
Once I had all the supplies together I was ready to get started.
Steps for french inspired toile eggs
- Begin by playing your napkin out flat
- Pull of the white napkin backing
- Cut out small, manageable sections
- Use brush to put a small amount of Modpodge on the area you are working on
- Place the napkin piece and go over with a small amount of Modpodge
- Be sure to smooth out any areas that may be sticking up
- Let each section dry before moving onto the next section
- Overlap each piece to cover the egg entirely
- Let the egg dry completely before adding to your vignette
After all the french inspired toile eggs have dried, time to move onto the music eggs.
Steps to create music inspired french eggs
- For the music sheets, cut into strips if using real hymnals like I did, these are pretty thick and will be lumpy if not careful
- Cut each strip end at an angle so they will lay flat
- Put a thin layer of Modpodge on the egg area you are placing the music strip
- Go over it with a thin layer of Modpodge
- Be sure to let each section dry before moving on to the next section
- Layer each strip as you are moving around the egg
- Let it dry completely once completed before using in your vignette
Once all the eggs are done it is time to start styling.
I had fun placing mine in several different vignettes throughout the house and finding which I liked best.
Generally I keep my Easter decor to a minimum as I always add in fresh flowers to the main areas of the house.
For these little vignettes I used moss and it added just enough greenery.
Which ever egg you decide to make I hope you enjoy your beautiful french inspired Easter eggs.
