Family friendly New Year’s activities
Hey there, I am back from spending some much needed time with my family for the Christmas holiday and wanted to share some family friendly New Year’s activities.
It is hard to believe that we will soon be closing 2018 and heading into the new year.
Having family friendly New Year’s eve activities are important if you are involving your children for the evening.
Since having children, we have always had a family friendly celebration and included the kids in all the details, it is our tradition.
There are so many fun things you can do to celebrate New Year’s eve with your children at home.
Not only are these activities fun, but they teach your children that there are so many ways to celebrate the new year.

Kid friendly activities:
These are just a few suggestions on celebrating with your kids:
Let the kids help in planning the evening
Have them list out what they were grateful for in 2018
What they would like to do in 2019 ; places they want to visit, adventures they would like to go on, etc.
Have them set one goal for the year, something they can achieve
Have your kids help make snacks for the night
Dress up like you are going out somewhere even though you are staying in
Have dinner and or snacks by candle light
Play board games , a few of our favorites include Trouble, Hearing things, and Heads up
Have a karaoke contest, kids love to perform and it is such a joy to watch them
Watch the New Year’s Eve concerts on television
Have sparkling grape juice for everyone
Have the kids make paper confetti by cutting up tissue paper saved from Christmas presents
Blow up balloons to have throughout the house and if your awake at midnight have the kids go through the house and pop the balloons
Have the adults put off some small fireworks
Have party hats and blow horns to use throughout the evening (typically we never make it to midnight)

Traditions
The new year celebration runs into New Year’s day with more family friendly activities.
New Year’s Day we have a tradition of doing the local Dolphin Dip here at the beach. There are a ton of activities going on prior to running and jumping into the ocean at noon.
With this tradition my daughter and I are the only ones who actually get in the water while the boys hold our towels and have them ready for when we come out of the water.
You can look up Polar Plunges in your area to see if there is one or if there is a New Years day 5k. This is one activity that will kick you into gear for the start of the new year.
Jumping into the ocean or any other cold body of water will make you feel invigorated, ready to face the year, and your children can participate as well.
Traditions are such an important part of ordinary days and holdiay’s, they teach our children family values while givng them a sense of belonging.
However you choose to celebrate New Year’s Eve, create some family traditions that will be carried on for years to come.
Till next time
xoxo

These are wonderful ideas and traditions! When my children were younger, we got together with several families to celebrate each year. This year, we are happily hosting a group of my teenage daughter’s friends. My daughter is planning the menu and some activities. Happy New Year to you and your family!
I love that they carry on our traditions with their friends. Happy New Year Lynne!!
You actually jump into the freezing ocean?! You are a beast! Great ideas, especially for kids! Pinned!
Hey Julie, yes my daughter and I have done it for several years and love it. Thanks for stopping by and Happy New Year.
