Friday evening, the week is over, and I’m ready

Friday evening, the week is over, and I’m ready to slow down.
Tonight I’m not worrying about the dusty furniture, the things that didn’t get done, or what could look better around the house. I’m just enjoying being home, a little music playing and something good to drink. The lights getting softer as the evening goes on. Honestly, there’s something beautiful about a home that’s actually lived in. The dust will still be there tomorrow. Tonight, I’m choosing to enjoy it.

Here’s to the start of a slow weekend and finding a little beauty in the ordinary.

I think my home is changing because I am. Lately, l’ve been less interested in making my rental look finished and more interested in making it feel like me. I’m moving things around and letting go of things I don’t love anymore. Bringing out pieces I’ve had for years. Thrifting when I find something that feels right instead of buying just to fill a space.
I’m realizing that becoming isn’t just about who I am becoming.
It’s also about what I choose to keep around me. Not doing less perfectly, just choosing more intentionally.

Work, school, responsibilities and by the time I get home, I’m tired.

but there is a whole lot more to me than decorating a room.
I’m a teacher, I’m approaching 60, I am a new grandmother. I love thrifting and finding things with a story. I love creating a home, even though mine is a rental. I love coffee, books, gardening, and slow mornings. I love listening to reggae, Taylor Swift, classical music and AC/DC. My taste in music may make absolutely no sense with my taste in interiors,
but somehow, it all feels very much like me. I love sharing the things I’m loving, things I’m changing my mind about and the messy, ordinary, funny, beautiful parts of this season of life. Because I’m realizing that connection doesn’t come from showing people a perfect version of ourselves, it comes from letting them get to know the real one.

I haven’t felt very motivated around my home lat

I haven’t felt very motivated around my home lately, I’ve been struggling with time. Work takes so much out of me that when I finally get home, the last thing I want to do is move furniture, style a room, or tackle the projects I’ve been thinking about. Sometimes I look around my rental and see all the things I’d like to change, the blue walls, the dark cabinets and unfinished projects. Things I wish I could do if I had more energy, time or more money. Coming home and taking the time to look at a magazine, catch my breath and relax helps me to remember that my home doesn’t have to be perfect for me to find comfort in it or love it.
Tell me I am not the only one who feels like this sometimes.
